The North Sydney Skin Cancer and Cosmetic medicine Centre has both the new generation Light Sheer hair removal laser and the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Hair Removal. These are world’s most advanced treatment for effective removal of unwanted hair.
Great news for women and men, young and old, who want to get rid of excess hair. Depending on your needs, most body areas can be treated with this state-of-the art technology.
Lightsheer/IPL air removal is a non-invasive treatment that permanently reduces the number of re-growing hairs. Light pulses are used to damage hair follicles, and impair their ability to grow hair. Damaged hair follicles are eliminated, with excellent long-term results.
How does it work?
Highly controlled pulses of light are emitted with the handpiece from a smooth, transparent Light Guide and are selectively absorbed by the hair follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The absorbed light heats the hair, which damages the re-growth potential of the follicle – all without damaging the surrounding tissue.
Which hair and skin types can receive hair removal?
Lightsheer/IPL hair removal is effective on all hair with pigment. IPL hair removal is safe for all skin types, including the deepest and richest skin tones.
What is a Lightsheer/IPL hair removal like?
Your treatment begins by shaving away the hair in the treatment area. A cold gel is usually applied to the area to be treated, and you may be given dark glasses or goggles to protect your eyes from the bright light. The pulses of light are applied to your skin, damaging the hair follicles and their ability to re-grow hair. You may feel a slight stinging with each light pulse, though most people tolerate the treatment without local anaesthesia. When the gel is removed, much of the hair is wiped off with it. The remaining hair in the treated area falls out over the next week or two.
What should you expect?
The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient, depending on the extent of the procedure and the skin type. You may experience some slight reddening or local swelling at the treatment site, which are in fact, positive clinical results and indicate that the follicle has responded to the treatment. Treatment is generally administered in a series of four to six sessions that yield excellent long-term results. Side effects are rare, and if they do occur, are typically minor. Most people return to normal activity right away.
