Skin cancer is a treatable condition that can have devastating results
if not treated early. Here are some tips on checking for skin cancer
yourself.

Step 1
Start with the face and look carefully at your nose, lips,
mouth, and front and back of the ears (use a hand mirror).
Next start with your scalp using the hair dryer to part the
hair area by area (ask for someone in the family or friend
to help if needed)

Step 2
Now it is your hands and arms. Be sure to check under your
fingernails carefully and between your fingers. Look for any
new brown streaks on the nails. Now focus on the front and
back of your hands and slowly work your way up the arm. Use
a mirror to check the back of your arms, elbows and armpits.

Step 3
The next area is your neck, chest and stomach (women should
lift their breasts to check underneath).

Step 4
Now look at the back of your neck, shoulders and all the way
down your spine (you will need a hand held and full-length
mirrors).

Step 5
The last area is from the waist to your toes. Start with the
bottom and move down to the backs of your legs. Sit down to
inspect your lower legs, feet and toes. Make sure to look
carefully under the toenails, between the toes and all parts
of your feet. Now move up the front of your legs and end by
using the hand mirror to check the genital area.
Once you have finished, apply a suitable moisturiser that is
gentle and not irritating.
If any spot remains persistently dry or scaly then this may
require extra attention and follow up.
