Whooping Cough

Have you been immunized?

Pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious disease. Though not particularly serious in older children and adults, is serious in babies and small children.

Whooping cough is spread by airborne droplets from coughing and sneezing and also person to person contact such as kissing and sharing food.

It is estimated 60% of babies and young children admitted to hospital with whooping cough have contracted the disease from a parent or grandparent. For this reason vaccination of all adults who have regular contact with babies or children is highly recommended.
